The first large fabrication project I ever worked on was crumpling large pieces of butcher paper for a giant tree in my two story house when I was 13. My dad inspired me to become involved in several major projects as my involvement grew from simply painting, to texturing foam to look like stone, sculpting a 15’ mountain, creating detailed colorful crystals, a realistic tree and eventually my own solo projects for church and school including a detailed model of a Utahraptor. My fabrication experience, while focused on styrofoam, included coming up with lots of unique engineering for transportation, structural stability and of course aesthetic. Understanding fabrication on a more detailed level greatly benefited my creativity when it came to unique problems in design.
